Bell Bike Helmets
Over 70% of children aged between 5 and 14 years ride bicycles. This activity, although it is a popular means of transport and sporting activities recommended, is not without risks. In Spain, according to the General Traffic Directorate (DGT), approximately 20% of fatalities in road accidents between 10 and 14 were bikers. The head injuries were the leading cause of death . . The use of bicycle bell bike helmets can prevent or reduce the risk of serious head injury, even when the cause of the accident is a collision with a car. The protective helmet is based on absorbing some of the energy and distribute the peak energy of the blow over a larger area and increase the transfer time. Through studies in this regard, it is estimated that proper use of bicycle bell bike helmets reduces the risk of head and brain injury by 63-88% and the risk of death is 26% lower. Nevertheless, the vast majority of bicycle users, including children, do not use the helmet, or use it inappropriately. As recognized by the Law 43/1999 of 25 November 1999 on the adaptation of the rules of the road to cycling (BOE 283 of 26 November 1999), "Drivers and, where appropriate, bicycle passengers shall be required to use the helmet in the trunk roads under the conditions established by regulation. "These regulations can be ignored only at very long ramp up, in case of extreme heat or if the rider certifies medical reasons. As for urban roads, but not mandatory helmet use, from agencies such as the DGT is recommended to use in any way. Encourage parents to encourage helmet use when their children start to ride tricycles or any vehicle or wheeled toy. Inform parents and children about the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle, and the danger in case of no use. This information is especially important for teenagers, since they are the most resistant to wear. Institute of Traffic and Road Safety (INTRAS). Child victims of traffic accidents (2000-2004).
